Responsibilities of Title IX Coordinators are to coordinate the institution’s efforts to comply with its obligations under Title IX and the Title IX regulations including:
- Develops, implements, coordinates and conducts educational programs and initiatives designed to educate and support faculty, staff, and students regarding their rights and, where applicable, obligations under Title IX, including reporting options/responsibilities, support services, University policy and applicable disciplinary code, grievance procedures, confidential resources, etc.
- Oversees, coordinates and ensures investigations of reports and complaints of sexual misconduct are adequate, reliable, timely, confidential and impartial; reviews proposed sanctions for sexual misconduct before they are imposed to ensure that they are reasonably calculated to stop the sexual misconduct and prevent its recurrence.
- Selects, trains, and oversees the Title IX Investigator; ensures investigators, adjudicators and those involved with processing Title IX complaints are adequately trained in compliance with Title IX guidance.
- Identifies systemic problems relating to complaints and determines whether campus-wide resources should be adopted in response, including review and revision of the University’s sexual misconduct policies, increased monitoring, supervision or security at locations where sexual misconduct is reported to occur, and increased education and prevention efforts to targeted populations.
- Collaborates with leadership and campus constituencies to disseminate information, redesign processes, and support the University’s investigative processes; collaborates and coordinates with compliance partners across the institution to support the University’s overlapping compliance needs and responsibilities.
- Communicates with local law enforcement and government agencies to ensure reports are handled appropriately and in a timely manner; coordinates with local advocacy organizations and service providers.
- Ensures ongoing compliance with Title IX by collecting and analyzing data, writing comprehensive reports and maintaining records of investigations.
- Serves on various University planning and policy making committees; participates in the development of University policies and procedures.
- Serves as Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act.
The Title IX coordinator is also responsible for the oversight and management of all Title IX complaints within the University, including:
- Grievance initiation and processing
- Supportive measures (where appropriate)
- Documentation and notice
- Non-retaliation

Title IX Reporting Obligations for Employees
Information regarding sex discrimination and/or sexual harassment shared with a University employee is required to be reported to the Title IX Coordinator. However, it is still the full choice of the individual who has experienced sex discrimination and/or sexual harassment to make a report with WNMU Campus Police or to participate in an administrative investigation.
WNMU faculty/staff receiving information about cases of sex discrimination and/or sexual harassment involving students or employees must report within 24 hours or as soon as reasonably possible what they have learned to the Title IX Coordinator using Report it!. Reports made by faculty or staff to the Title IX Coordinator will include the nature, date, time, location, as well as the identities of all involved parties. While faculty and staff must report this information to the Title IX Coordinator, this information is still considered private and will only be shared by the Title IX Coordinator with those who have a legitimate need-to-know and as authorized by University policy and applicable federal and state law.

Talking Points – Sexual violence and my obligation to report
- I appreciate that you trust me enough to share with me and I want you to make a fully informed decision about what you tell me. So, I want you to know that I have to report things like sexual misconduct to the University’s Title IX Coordinator.
- WNMU takes these concerns very seriously and has a process in place to address them.
- The Title IX Coordinator or designee is the neutral party who will contact you to offer supportive measures, and will explain your rights and options.
- Your report will remain private and only necessary information will be shared with WNMU representatives to provide supportive measures.
- The Title IX Coordinator or designee can coordinate supportive measures such as: Academic, housing and other adjustments, no-contact orders or ban someone from campus.
- You are not required to meet with the Title IX Coordinator or designee or participate in any process.
- You are not required to go to the police.
- Retaliation is strictly prohibited.
There are anonymous, free counseling and advocacy services available in the community and they are confidential.
